Urawa Reds left it late to defeat Kashiwa Reysol 3-2 and move three points clear at the top of the J. League today.
Kashima Antlers, Gamba Osaka, Nagoya Grampus and Kawasaki Frontale have a game in hand due to their Asian Champions League commitments on the same day.
The Reds started well as Brazilian forward Edmilson scored the opener in the 12th minute but Kashiwa looked determined to get something from the game and forward Hideaki Kitajima equalised with a header in the 25th minute.
Kashiwa then went ahead in the 39th minute through defender Naoki Ishikawa but the Reds rallied and first equalised through a Yuzo Kobayashi own goal in the 85th minute before substitute Sergio Escudero struck the winner in the last minute.
"It was hard for both sides to play in such slippery conditions and it turned out to be a tough battle," Urawa manager Volker Finke said.
"I'm glad that we were able to rally against our opponents. For our mentality and team spirit, it was important for us to collect three points in such a way."
Elsewhere, Brazilian forward Gilsinho scored twice and South Korea forward Lee Keun-ho scored his fourth brace in five matches as Jubilo Iwata overcame a 3-0 deficit to battle back for a 3-3 draw at Albirex Niigata.
Oita Trinita failed to bring an end to their losing streak as they suffered a 3-0 defeat at Omiya Ardija after going down to 10 men. Yoshifumi Fujita, Chikara Fujimoto and Naoki Ishihara scored for Omiya.
Sanfrecce Hiroshima downed FC Tokyo 2-0 thanks to goals from Yojiro Takahagi and Hisato Sato while Brazilian duo Paulinho and Diego both found the net to guide Kyoto Sanga to a 2-0 win over Yokohama F Marinos.
Finally, Vissel Kobe also ended their losing streak by beating Montedio Yamagata 3-1 at home thanks to goals from Hiroto Moto, Park Kan Jo and Takayuki Yoshida while Norwegian forward Frode Johnsen's first goal of the season and a Takuma Edamura helped Shimizu S-Pulse draw 2-2 with hosts JEF United Chiba.
