EXCLUSIVE: Insiders say internal political problems at Adelaide United have been going on much longer than the last few weeks and these problems chiefly stem from a pair of Reds players.
Reds coach Aurelio Vidmar's will hold clear the air talks this morning to try to flush out those who have been causing trouble within the squad ahead of the preliminary final this weekend.
Since his brutally frank press conference following United's 4-0 (6-0 on aggregate) major semi-final loss to Melbourne Victory on Saturday night, there have been questions about who exactly coach Aurelio Vidmar was referring to in his post-match rant.
The frustrated coach said the loss was chiefly due to internal politics at the club. "Politics is what I put it down to," he said. "There are too many people in this club with hidden agendas.
"That's the problem. That 4-0 result tonight was politics, nothing else, whether you are involved directly or indirectly, you have an effect on everyone. That 4-0 result was because of that."
After speaking with a number of Adelaide insiders au.fourfourtwo.com believes the problems rest with two particular players and most likely some board members who've been aware of certain issues regarding one or two players.
"The people who Aurelio was talking about were certain players. People involved with the club directly on a daily basis will know who these two people are," says one Reds insider.
"People on the board know what these players are like. The problem is certain people say the right things to people.
"Aurelio did comment that all this started three weeks ago. Were they involved in Kosmina's sacking? Probably."
Another United source says this: "I know it's been going on for a long time. From day one. The two players he's talking about were doing it a few years ago.
"There's a lot to it. These are the same people who were causing trouble when John Kosmina was the coach of Adelaide United.
"There is a massive problem. And it's been there for a long time. Eventually the people in South Australia will realise what these people are like."
As for this meeting clearing the air ahead of the Reds' crucial preliminary final against Roar this weekend - a game that has 2010 ACL qualification and an A-League grand final at stake - one source says it is impossible to clear the air with just one meeting.
"It's impossible that they'll flush out all these issues," he said. "This has been going on for three years, not just two weeks. It's impossible.
"With certain individuals, yes, it's player power. But no-one is prepared to speak for different reasons.
"It's very disappointing for a club that's achieved so much this season," added another source.
"There are certain players from what I hear who are talking about walking out of the club."
It's believed that striker Cristiano is likely to be sold soon fellow Brazil Cassio could also exit the club in the coming weeks.
