The Reds saw numerous experienced campaigners either move on or retire at the end of last season and there are plenty of spots still to be filled.

Adelaide are believed to be in talks with a number of overseas players with former Reading and Cheltenham Town striker Lloyd Owusu today linked with the club.

Vidmar hopes the budget will allow him to squeeze in a quartet with two likely to be foreigners.

Meanwhile the Reds areĀ in the process of finalising a list of friendly matches in preparation for the club's A-League 2009/10 Season opener against Perth Glory at Hindmarsh Stadium on August 7.

It is confirmed that The Reds will take on Perth Glory in Adelaide on Friday 26 June, while a match has also been locked in against Melbourne Victory in Launceston, Tasmania a month later.

The match against the Victory will be the third time in as many years that Launceston has hosted a game between the South Australian and Victorian rivals, United registering a win and a draw from the previous two fixtures at the location.

A fixture against Hyundai A-League newcomers North Queensland Fury in Darwin on July 2 is also in the pipeline, as is a match against Sydney FC, although details of both encounters are yet to be finalised. United expect to have confirmation by the middle of next week.

As The Reds' pre season campaign gets into full swing, the club is also planning to play at least three games against local South Australian clubs, with details still to be arranged.

After another significant turnover of players at the end of last season, the matches will be the first chance for the new look Reds squad, which includes new signings Adam Hughes, Iain Fyfe and Michael Marrone plus any additional signings, to play a competitive fixture together.

With Football Federation Australia scrapping the Pre-Season Cup this year due to the expansion of the regular season to 27 rounds, the friendlies have been organised as part of Adelaide United's pre season campaign to the build up to the opening game of the season.
