First half goals from Reinaldo teed up the victory as Frank Farina’s outfit, featuring debutant Danny Tiatto, was cheered on by more than 11,000 supporters.

Fans enjoyed a day of colour, dance, music and football as the club kicked off the Queensland Roars Against Racism campaign.

While there was plenty of activity off the pitch, the action on it ensured a happy trip home for the Roar faithful.

The home side took the lead in the 12th minute, courtesy of a huge ‘assist’ from goalkeeper Liam Reddy.

The Roar custodian scampered off his line to clear the ball and launched a 70-metre pass that dropped perfectly for Reinaldo. The Brazilian striker then steadied himself on the edge of the box before finding the net with a perfectly placed shot past Supersport ‘keeper Andre Arendse.

The home side were dominating proceedings and it was no surprise when they doubled their lead in the 37th minute with Reinaldo grabbing his second of
the game.

Moving through a posse of defenders on the edge of the penalty area, the big Brazilian fired a low shot past Arendse’s desperate dive and into the corner
of the net.

Supersport pulled a goal back just before the break as they enjoyed a good spell of pressure in the Roar half. Rudi Isaacs nodded a deep cross back across the face of goal and Katlego Mashego was on hand to head home from
close range.

Frank Farina introduced Tahj Minniecon and Simon Lynch for the second period
in place of Milicic and goalscorer Reinaldo. Also on for his Roar debut was former Socceroo Danny Tiatto who replaced Andrew Packer. Lynch wasted no time in getting himself on the scoresheet and made it 3-1 in the 52nd minute. Marcinho’s persistence made the chance and Lynch pounced on the loose ball before smashing home from 10 metres.

Strike partner Minniecon was next to find the net when he finished off a fine run and cross from midfield dynamo Matt McKay to make it 4-1 to the home side.

Roar coach Frank Farina said he was more than happy with the performance of his troops.

“This was an ideal game for where we are at with our preparation for the new season. I was very pleased with the way our boys approached the game and we deserved our win.

“The only disappointing thing from our point of view was the injury to Andrew Packer. He’s strained his hamstring and could be out for five or six weeks,” Farina said.
