Jonathan Maidana's header was enough to hand River Plate a much-needed win in their 'superclasico' match against Boca Juniors.
Maidana headed home the only goal after 54 minutes to end River's seven-game winless run and give new boss Juan Jose Lopez his first victory in charge of the Buenos Aires giants.
River's win also eased their relegation concerns as they moved into the top half of the Argentinian Apertura table.
