Glory is raring up for its first silverware after Ron Smith’s revamped side qualified for the Pre-Season Cup final after beating Central Coast on Saturday.

“We haven’t lost a single game and it’s great after two seasons where the club hasn’t really succeeded,” Rizzo told au.fourfourtwo.com at Sydney airport before flying back to Perth.

“Things are looking very promising. We are still experimenting with our system but these wins are great for our confidence when we play the final.”

But he warned the Glory faithful should not get too excited even if they do beat Adelaide United this weekend in the South Australian capital. “There are no guarantees. There’s hype and it’s very positive but there are no guarantees that it will bring us success in the A-League.”

Rizzo himself played the final 11 minutes in the weekend victory over the Mariners. “I’ve got a quad injury that’s still there. I still need to work on my fitness,” he said. “I don’t feel 100 percent.”

Perth Glory secured its Pre-Season Cup grand final berth with a 3-2 victory over the Central Coast Mariners in Gosford on Saturday night. Goals to Mate Dragicevic, Leo Bertos and David Tarka were enough to shock the favourites the Mariners.

“We were definitely fighting against the tide towards the end there but the boys did a great job to hold out Central Coast who have been in good form and will be a very good side this season,” said coach Ron Smith.

“We’ve enjoyed a good build up and with the addition of some new personnel we have a different composition and resolve this season and you can see that in the results we’ve had so far,” he added.

Glory now takes yet another trip, this time to Adelaide to take on their closest geographical rivals Adelaide United next Sunday, 3pm at Hindmarsh stadium.

“It’s been disappointing not been able to play at home in this Cup tournament,” said Rizzo. “But since the club’s new owners have taken over, they’ve shown how professional they are, and we’ve responded on the park.”
