BRISBANE Roar games will be vuvuzela-free affairs this season with a decision taken today to ban the instruments from Suncorp Stadium.
The vuvuzela, which gained notoriety at the recent World Cup in South Africa, will be banned for Roar games at Suncorp Stadium for this season.
"The nuisance value of the vuvuzela is well documented. Anyone who watched any of the World Cup games would agree the noise they emit is a major inconvenience. The fans said so and so did the players," said stadium general manager, Alan Graham.
"The event experience for patrons at Suncorp Stadium is just as important to us as what happens on the field of play.
"We are all about helping the Brisbane Roar create a home town fortress and atmosphere at the stadium but vuvuzelas bring nothing to the party.
"Anyone attempting to bring a vuvuzela into the stadium will have it confiscated."
Roar CEO Peter McLennan said he believed the club's supporters were the best kind of vocal support for the team.
He added: "We have the best fans in the Hyundai A-League and they have demonstrated time and again they are loud and proud to follow Brisbane Roar.
"As a club, we believe the vuvuzela would detract from the fantastic atmosphere already created at Suncorp Stadium.
"We ask our fans to sing hard, cheer hard and chant hard, but leave the vuvuzelas at home."
