Mauk, who spent last season on loan at Melbourne City, signed a three-year deal with NEC after a strong campaign with then-champions Adelaide United in 2016.

The 22-year-old fell out of favour at NEC and struggled for first-team opportunities leading to his exit following the club’s relegation from the Eredivisie.

NEC technical director Remco Oversier confirmed in the Dutch press that the club were negotiating for the sale of Mauk.

It is understood, City had an option to buy Mauk following his loan, where he made 26 appearances and scored six goals in all competitions, but did not exercise it.

Mauk scored against Roar in City's 2-0 elimination finals win at AAMI Park.

John Aloisi’s side have already signed forwards Adam Taggart and Dylan Wenzel-Halls this off-season but missed out on Daniel De Silva.

Roar are also understood to have signed eight-Denmark international midfielder Tobias Mikkelsen.

Fahid Ben Khalfallah, Massimo Maccarone, Corey Brown, Jade North, Mitch Oxborrow and Corey Gameiro have all left Roar this off-season.
