MASSIMO Murdocca is out to reverse the result that ended last season's title hopes the rematch of last season’s Preliminary Final.
Newcastle Jets needed extra time to overcome Queensland Roar in a 3-2 thriller last season before carrying on to win the Championship but Murdocca said the result was not a factor.
Buoyed by a 3-0 win over Perth on Sunday, the midfield dynamo was hoping the team could repeat the feat at home against the champions who are winless in the new campaign.
“I don’t know how the other boys feel but really it’s just another game,” Murdocca said. “Last year’s forgotten, it was just bad luck and things don’t go your way sometimes.
“They had a good year and won and congratulations to them. This year’s a new year and we’ll get a good win tomorrow.”
This season has seen the 23-year-old given more freedom to attack than previously, on the right of a potent midfield featuring Matt McKay and Scottish number ten Charlie Miller.
Miller will write himself into the record books tomorrow if he scores, becoming the first player in a national Australian competition to score in five consecutive matches to start a season.
With midfield partner Matt McKay also notching a goal on Sunday, Murdocca said it would be nice if he could share a slice of the glory with a strike of his own.
“It’s not really my forte to be scoring goals to be honest,” he said. “(But) we’re all playing well and to see Matty score, Charlie as well, I think it’d be nice.
“But at the end of the day if we’re winning games and I’m contributing a little bit it doesn’t matter if I score or not, I’ll be happy.
“Charlie’s just provided that little bit of spark and little bit of creativity that allows me and Matty to get into the game a little bit more.
“He gives us that confidence and really that positivity to get forward. He’s been a great acquisition to the team and we’re very happy to have him.”
