QUEENSLAND Roar have hit back at media reports that they will hand their licence back to Football Federation Australia due to financial pressures.
Fairfax newspapers reported on Friday that problems with their finances relating to their tenancy arrangement at Suncorp Stadium would force the Roar to surrender their licence, largely because they require 15,000 at their home games just to break even.
The report also claimed Adelaide United would do likewise because owner Nick Bianco is set to sever ties with the club, with FFA forced to seek new backers to maintain a 10-team A-League in 2009/10 with the pending introduction of Gold Coast and North Queensland.
But while the club may be set to be known as the Brisbane Roar next season because of the arrival of the Queensland-based Fury and Gold Coast United clubs, chief executive Lawrence Oudendyk dismissed the report and said the club is simply seeking new investors.
A club statement said categorically: "These reports are incorrect."
Oudendyk added: "The club is confident that with negotiations underway regarding a new hiring arrangement with Suncorp Stadium and with the short-term support of FFA, that the club will be able to build on the success of previous seasons.
"The club is currently in discussions with local and overseas interest regarding investing in the club.
"Combined with strong support from our current sponsors and investors we can guarantee Queensland Roar will be playing in the Hyundai A-League in the upcoming season and well beyond."
