The surgery is described as “clean-up” and aims to correct discomfort and loss of flexibility following a ligament injury he sustained last season.

“It’s not a major thing but I just want to get this over and done with so I can concentrate on having a good season with the club and hopefully scoring some more goals,” he said.

He added: “I’ve completed the first four weeks of pre-season so I won’t lose too much fitness in the recovery period and our medical staff don’t think there will be any complications whatsoever. It’s just a bit of maintenance really.”

The club’s physiotherapist Tony Ganter added that the club had tried to settle the injury down through two injections, however the injury did not sufficiently respond.

Lynch is expected to be back in action ahead of the next A-League campaign and should also be ready to take part in July’s Pre-Season Cup. Roar are set to play Sydney FC, Central Coast Mariners and new club Wellington Phoenix in the tournament. Their first will be against Sydney FC which will be in Maroochydore on 14 July.
