The high-profile marquee signing will soon join the Townsville-based club after he was forced to miss his original arrival date of March 1 because of his trial date in the UK for allegedly using his mobile phone while driving.

Fury chairman Don Matheson talked of his excitement at having a world-class player among the Fury's ranks ahead of his new arrival date of March 18.

"He's not far off. He was keen to do additional fitness work but he's got so many things to work through the date has been pushed back," Matheson told Nine's Wide World Of Sport.

"But I know he is keen to get here and get stuck into some training to get a start on the others. It's exciting."

Matheson also revealed the club is set to unveil a new signing shortly, tipped to be 31-year-old Scott Wilson who currently captains Scottish outfit Dunfermline Athletic.

"We have one (signing) in the next couple of days, an outstanding player from overseas which Fergie is excited about," Matheson said.

"And Fergie is well underway in discussions with a couple of lads now - we are comfortable we will fill the roster up well in time with exactly the type of people we are looking for."
