Manchester City forward Robinho conceded the goalless draw against Bolivia in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday was one of the worst performances by Brazil in recent years.
Bolivia played with 10 men for more than half an hour and the Selecao's failure to break them down saw Dunga's men met by a chorus of boos at the final whistle.
"We were awful and never found a way past the Bolivians so the reaction is understandable," said the former Santos and Real Madrid striker.
"I think the clock was our biggest enemy because if we had scored early the rest would have been easier.
"Everybody knows that we have to improve a lot."
Coach Dunga, meanwhile, brushed off any suggestion the result would lead to his resignation.
The 1994 World Cup-winner had been under pressure from the media and fans until Saturday's 3-0 win over Chile, but Wednesday's goalless draw saw questions about his future raised again.
"I will continue working and I will complete the period Brazilian FA president Ricardo Teixeira and I agreed," he said.
"The good performance against Chile created a lot of expectation in the fans so the 0-0 draw brought whistles and insults at the end.
"They all expected a lot more from the team. The players have to learn to manage the anxiety and the pressure."
Dunga's side sit four points behind leaders Paraguay after recording four draws in eight games.
