Socceroos coach Graham Arnold infuriated Celtic fans by making Rogic miss the club's Old Firm clash with Rangers to join the Australia camp ahead of the tournament.

In the end he didn't even play in the final warm up friendly against Oman, but did then played in the following four Asian Cup games.

Rogic arrived in the camp under an injury cloud and missed the earlier warm up friendly against Lebanon last November with what was described then as a "knee knock".

But the attacking midfielder still managed to play two full games against Jordan and Syria, 75 minutes against Palestine and 111 minutes in the marathon Uzbekistan round of 16 clash.

He missed Australia's quarter final date against the UAE through suspension after picking up two yellows in the earlier matches.

Today though it was revealed he has returned to his club with an injury and will have to undergo surgery. He is not expected to play again until mid-late March.

Coach Brendan Rodgers revealed:ย "Unfortunately, he will be out for up to six weeks. He's seen a knee specialist in London but we'll be without him for a while."

The injury is a critical blow to Celtic on the eve of their Europe League campaign and the club's bid to stay ahead of Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership ladder.ย

The news sparked a furious backlash against the Socceroos among Celtic fans on Twitter.
