Rudan has returned to Sydney after bidding farewell to his team mates following United's Asian Champions League match against Shandong Luneng at Hindmarsh Stadium.

The 34 year-old was granted permission by United's coaching staff to head back to Sydney early in order to complete his 'C' coaching licence as he looks to pursue a career in coaching.

A solid contributor in United's defence during his 19 appearances for the club, Rudan missed out on playing any part in the AFC Champions League 2010 Group Stage due to a calf injury.

After leading Sydney FC to the A-League championship in 2005/06 and following stints in Japan and Switzerland, Rudan signed with the Reds in August 2009.

Reflecting on Rudan's contribution to the club, United coach Aurelio Vidmar credited the defender's leadership and the many fine attributes he brought to the playing squad.

"Rudes was terrific, especially the experience he brought to the squad, and particularly the young guys, both on and off the field," Vidmar told United's official website.

"He was a great player but he now wants to focus on a future in coaching and we wish him all the best with whatever lies ahead and I'm sure he will be successful in whatever he chooses to do."
