"I don't know if I'm going to be there myself,” Ceccoli, who is on holiday in Sydney during the Japanese off-season, told au.fourfourtwo.com.

"I'm just waiting for offers to come to the table within Asia. I don't know what's happening with Avispa right now.

“Centrally in defence we were pretty poor at Avispa. So that's why Pierre has gone with Mark there. The issue for me is the other two foreign players at the club. There are limits on how many you can have.

“A midfielder and a forward have gone as well, so Pierre's looking to replace them. If he can replace them with Japanese boys, then my situation looks good. If not, he'll try to get a foreigner or two.”

Despite a mid-table finish, Ceccoli, 33, says he's enjoyed his first season in Japan's J2 and says the technical level of players is better than the A-League.

“It's a very demanding league with the amount of games. The players have a good level of technical ability. They're very sharp.

“They are far superior to A-League players. Technically they are very good. It's just that they lack a spontaneous element to their game.

“If the coach, for instance, tells them to move into certain positions when we're bringing the ball out of defence, they'll do that every single time – even if it's not on.

“But football's not always like that and sometimes you have to think with a more off-the-cuff when the situation presents itself.

“It's to do with their culture – they see things black and white while football has a lot of grey matter.”

Rudan announced he was leaving Sydney this week to take up a lucrative offer from the J2 club, coached by former FC supremo Pierre Littbarski. Avispa starts pre-season on January 15.

Ceccoli that he believes Rudan will be a hit at Avispa: “He's big tall and strong – so on corners and set plays he should be able to do well over there.”

As for a Socceroos recall, Ceccoli said: “I don't think it's unrealistic or realistic.

"I came in and did a job for Graham Arnold then he thought I wasn't good enough or whatever."

The left back was last called up in 2006 for the Asian Cup qualifiers against Bahrain and Kuwait. He has six caps.

“I've been out for a few months with injury but I was in the top six of 36 players for fitness at Avispa, and I was the fittest out of the older group," he added.

“So you just never know in football.”
