Konstatin Zyryanov, Andrei Arshavin, Roman Pavluchenko and Vladimir Bystrov all netted for Guus Hiddink's side after Mantas Savenas had put the Lithuanians ahead mid-way through the first half.

Russia could have extended their lead further if Diniyar Bilyaletdinov had not blazed his second half penalty over the bar.

Despite the healthy-looking final score it did not initially appear to be Russia's night as Hiddink was forced into making a substitution after just 14 minutes when key defender Alexei Berezutsky picked up a bloody nose.

Then seven minutes later the visitors went in front when Savenas converted Robertas Poskus' pass from close range.

But Russia were level just after the half-hour mark when Zyryanov fired into the top left corner of the goal from inside the box.

Arshavin made it two with a low effort after 51 minutes, before Russia looked like putting the game beyond doubt on the hour mark after Tadas Labukas handballed in the area and the referee signalled a penalty.

Bilyaletdinov stepped up put fired his shot high over the bar.

Pavluchenko handed him a reprieve just two minutes later, however, as he scored Russia's third with a well-struck effort from 18 yards.

Both sides then had chances to add to their tallies, as Arshavin hit the post after 67 minutes and Saulius Mikoliunas fired a shot onto the bar from long range for Lithuania four minutes later.

But it was left to Bystrov to finish the rout when he collected Dmitri Torbinsky's pass from the right wing in the area and finished low past Zydrunas Karcemarskas in the Lithuania goal.
