The victory extends Roar’s unbeaten run to six games and sets the stage perfectly for the visit of Champions Melbourne Victory next Friday night.

The night belonged to Queensland’s two Brazilians, Reinaldo and Marcinho, who put the Kiwis to the sword in a 15-minute period of all out attack from the home side.

Roar boss Frank Farina named an unchanged starting line-up but was forced into two changes on the substitute’s bench.

With Mitch Nichols away on international duty Brazilian midfielder Marcinho took his place and Ante Milicic replaced Simon Lynch who failed a late fitness test after injuring his foot at yesterday’s training session.

The good news on the injury front was the appearance in goal of Liam Reddy who recovered from the ankle sprain that threatened to sideline him this week.

After a quiet opening few minutes Roar has the best early chance when Matt McKay’s swirling free-kick was met by Sasa Ognenovski, but under pressure the big defender could only fire straight at Phoenix ‘keeper Glen Moss who saved well at point-blank range.

On the quarter hour Reinaldo came even closer with a stinging volley that rattled the post, then the big Brazilian saw a long-range strike, followed by a glancing header, just miss the target as the home side began to take control.

In the 34th minute the visitors were dealt a blow when star forward Ahmad Elrich was shown a red card for elbowing Hyuk-Su Seo near the touchline.

Despite protests from Elrich’s team-mates, referee Matthew Breeze had no hesitation in sending the former Fulham winger for an early shower.

At the start of the second half the visitors seemed intent on settling for a point and Farina’s men were struggling to make an impact.

The Roar boss reacted by throwing on the more attack-minded Marcinho for Stuart McLaren and the change had an almost instant impact.

In the 65th minute the Brazilian attempted an overhead kick that was charged down by Roar old-boy Karl Dodd but referee Breeze ruled that Dodd had used his hands to block the ball and pointed to the penalty spot.

Reinaldo stepped up and made no mistake with the spot kick, celebrating with his trademark back-flips.

Less than 10 minutes later Reinaldo doubled his tally and registered his fourth goal of the season with a classy back-heel that foxed both Dodd and ‘keeper Glen Moss after great work from Matt McKay to set him up.

Roar were on fire and soon after Marcinho drove the final nail in the Kiwis coffin with a classy finish from just inside the box.

His strike capped a superb break that saw Michael Zullo streak forward and pick out the Brazilian with a pin-point cross.

Reliable defender Josh McCloughan picked up a costly 23rd minute yellow card that means he will miss next week’s clash with Melbourne through suspension.

Roar will also be without young-gun Michael Zullo who is away on international duty with the Olyroos, but Frank Farina will be hopeful of seeing Danny Tiatto return after missing two games with a groin strain
