The Reds have not been higher than fifth on the table anytime this season, and a win over the Jets coupled with other results going their way, could see United shoot into the top four come the end of round nine.

The importance of a positive result in every match has never been more prevalent than in season five, with only two points separating the top seven teams on the A-League table.

After Gold Coast United were held to a draw by Wellington Phoenix last night, Reds coach Aurelio Vidmar knows his team has an excellent chance to capitalise and put themselves right in the mix.

"It's really important that we get back on track at home, and a win will certainly put us in a very good position," Vidmar said.

"I think the last two weeks on the track have been fantastic. The mood is extremely upbeat which is great and training has been spot on so we're really looking forward to Monday, and getting our home form back to where it should be."

Vidmar stated he will not mess with the winning formula that defeated North Queensland Fury last Sunday, and will field the same starting line up against the Jets, even with midfielder Fabian Barbiero and Brazilian Alemao both being available.

"There's no point in changing. We had a very good win, everyone really worked their socks off, especially in that last 30 minutes when we thought the heat may have had some sort of impact us, and we continued to overrun North Queensland so that was really pleasing," Vidmar said.

The Reds face a Newcastle team that have lost their past three games, and despite United defeating Newcastle 2-0 in both of their encounters at Hindmarsh Stadium last season, Vidmar is not taking the Jets' past results as any indicator of what to expect from the 2007/08 champions.

"I still think they're a very good football side, there's no question about that. Sure they're in a bit of a trough at this point of time but they're still a very good side who plays some very good football and we can't underestimate anyone," Vidmar said.

One Jets player that will be out to put in a good performance is former Adelaide United defender Angelo Costanzo, who if selected, will return to Hindmarsh since joining Newcastle in the off season.

Following his outstanding display against the Fury, United goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic will need to be on his guard again on Monday, as will the rest of United's defence, with Newcastle set to bring in new signing, former Leeds United striker Michael Bridges, while proven Hyundai A-League goal scorer Sasho Petrovski also returns from injury.

"On results it (Newcastle's form) hasn't been that good but they're a very good team. You look at their last three games and the possession they've had and how many shots on goal, they've had more than the opposition, they just haven't been able to find the back of the net, so hopefully they don't do it this week and we get a good result," Galekovic said.

"The boys are slowly getting their confidence back and if we win at home this week we'll be right up there in the finals mix."
