Coming off the back of a 3-0 friendly victory in Lebanon, the Socceroos keeper probably never expected to reach the milestone on a sticky night in Beirut.

And although clearly delighted in cracking the century, he said there would be plenty of time to reflect once a place at the 2014 Brazil World Cup was secured.

“Obviously it’s been a long time coming in the sense that you’ve been on a certain number of caps and you can see the games coming,” Schwarzer said after captaining the Socceroos to victory against the Cedars on Thursday night.

“If you’re selected you’re thinking which game you might make your 100th appearance. So it’s kind of nice to get that game under my belt now and really get on with the bare bones of it and the most important thing, which is qualification to the World Cup.

“So I’m enjoying the night and the accomplishment. I think it’s one of those accomplishments you look back on later in life as well with probably a little bit more acknowledgement of it.

“But now it’s about getting back to business and hopefully getting the result against Jordon and those three points."

Despite a senior international career spanning almost two decades, the 39-year-old Fulham shot stopper had no hesitation in naming a defining moment in the green and gold.

“It’s very hard to look past 2005 when we qualified for Germany,” Schwarzer said.

“That momentous night when we beat Uruguay on penalties - when you’re looking at 32 years of trying to qualify and then qualifying in such dramatic circumstances, it’s something that is very hard to look beyond.”

The Socceroos will face Jordan in a crucial World Cup qualifier in Amman on Tuesday night.
