Scotland go into Saturday's crucial Euro 2008 qualifier against Italy at Hampden on the back of an unbeaten home record against the Azzurri.
Here, PA Sport looks back at Italy's previous visits to Glasgow.
SCOTLAND 1 ITALY 0 - November 9, 1965
Italy's first Hampden clash fell under similar circumstances as the Azzurri needed a point to qualify for the World Cup finals, while Jock Stein's Scotland required a win to keep their hopes alive. The hosts duly obliged the crowd of more than 100,000. In the 88th minute, Rangers legend John Greig stormed forward from his right-back position and played a one-two with Jim Baxter, before hitting a left-footed strike low into the net. But the joy was short-lived as the Scots lost 3-0 in the return fixture to miss out on the finals in England.
SCOTLAND 0 ITALY 0 - November 18, 1992
After an uplifting Euro 92, Scotland made a poor start to their World Cup qualifying campaign with defeat in Switzerland followed by a draw with Portugal. The Italians were next to visit Ibrox, with Hampden under reconstruction, and the Scots badly needed a win. However, Gordon Durie missed two great chances for Andy Roxburgh's men. Italy held on despite being reduced to 10 men late on when Roberto Baggio, who was marked out of the game by Alan McLaren, went off injured after they had used both subs. Scotland failed to qualify for the USA finals, where Italy finished runners-up to Brazil.
SCOTLAND 1 ITALY 1 - September 3, 2005
Walter Smith had quickly turned around Scotland's World Cup qualifying campaign after taking over from Berti Vogts and almost pulled off a famous Hampden victory. The Scots made a bright start and took the lead when Kenny Miller nipped in front of the visiting defence to head home Paul Hartley's 15th-minute cross. Craig Gordon made some superb saves as the Scots looked like holding on, but a deflected strike from Fabio Grosso 15 minutes from time earned Marcello Lippi's side a point.
