Syria notched up their second win in a row with a 2-0 victory over Lebanon to move to the summit of Group D in qualifying for the 2011 Asian Cup.
A goal in each half ensured the Syrians took all three points in Beirut, adding to their 3-2 win over China in their opening qualifier earlier this month.
Jihad Al Hussain gave the Syrians the lead in the 37th minute before Firas Al Khatib sealed the win 13 minutes from time.
Al Hussain struck when the Lebanese defence failed to clear the ball and the Syrian striker beat goalkeeper Lary Mehanna with a first-time shot.
The visitors had to wait until deep into the second half before claiming a second when Al Khatib beat Ramex Dayoub before dispatching a shot past Mehanna.
The Syrians lead the group by three points from China, with Vietnam in third place. Only the top two teams qualify for the finals, which will be held in Qatar in January 2011.
