Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma restored their six point lead over Suwon Samsung Bluewings at the top of the K-League as a Kim Doo-hyun brace secured a comfortable 3-0 victory against FC Daegu on Sunday.
Seongnam, who were returning to K-League action after a disappointing performance at the A3 Champions Cup in China, took just 80 seconds to open the scoring as Daegu goalkeeper Baek Min-cheol failed to hold Kim's left-sided cross and captain Kim Sang-shik was on hand to stab the loose ball home from close range.
Seongnam were a whisker away from extending their lead midway through the first-half as Mota slalomed past two defenders on the edge of the area, but the Brazilian striker saw his shot come back off the inside of the Daegu post.
Buoyed by his inclusion in Korea's Asian Cup squad, Daegu striker Lee Kun-ho saw his first-half long-range effort saved by Kim Yong-dae and a minute after the restart struck the Seongnam post.
Kim grabbed his first after 56 minutes as the South Korea international collected the ball on the edge of the area and, despite being forced wide by the Daegu goalkeeper, curled home from a tight angle.
The 24-year-old saved the best for last as he rifled home from 30 yards to seal the win.
"We've played so many games recently," said Kim. "We didn't get the right results in the A3 Cup but we have been trying our best to win every game. In the K-League we have been showing that we are the strongest team."
Gyeongnam FC had temporarily closed the gap at the top of the table to three points after claiming a 5-3 victory over Gyeongnam FC on Saturday.
