After few changes at the end of last season, Newcastle Jets will see at least six players depart in the aftermath of their 2018/19 campaign.
Ronald Vargas, Daniel Georgievski, Jair, Nick Cowburn, Jake Adelson and Kwabena Appiah have all come to the end of their contracts and won’t be re-signed.
It was a disappointing campaign for seventh-placed Newcastle after the heroics of 2017/18 saw them finish Premiership and Championship runners-up.
Coach, Ernie Merrick thanked the exiting players for their commitment to the club.
“Each of these players have been model professionals, great characters, and made a positive contribution to this club during their time here,” Merrick said.
“I’d like to thank them for their efforts and on behalf of everyone at the Jets, wish them the very best for the next step in their careers.”
Vargas joined the club at the beginning of the 2017/18 season, lighting up the league in the early rounds before being struck down with injury.
The Venezuelan returned in time for the finals series last season and played a big role throughout the recent campaign with 23 appearances and 7 goals across all competitions.
Tenacious defender Daniel Georgievski also leaves the club after two years and 42 times appearances for the Hunter outfit.
Nick Cowburn is the longest-serving player of those departing, making his Jets debut as a 19-year-old in late 2014.
The Toronto junior and Academy graduate scored his first goal in Newcastle colours against Sydney FC back in Round 4, and made 67 A-League appearances for the Jets.
Jair joined at the beginning of 2018/19 season and played 20 times, scoring 2 goals, while Kwabena Appiah joined mid-season with two appearances and a goal to his name.
Jake Adelson’s time at the club was disrupted with injury and the youngster played just once for the Jets, in the 3-1 win over Melbourne City in February.
