HOLLAND midfielder Wesley Sneijder has been taken to hospital after suffering an ankle injury during today's 3-0 friendly win over Japan in Enschede.
The 25-year-old, who last week moved from Real Madrid to Inter Milan, was replaced 12 minutes from time by Rafael van der Vaart after scoring the second goal for the Oranje.
He was carried off the field on a stretcher and then went to the hospital on crutches, casting doubt over his availability for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Scotland.
Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk said: "He heard something crack. It does not look good. Wesley is now in the hospital."
