Lee Wilkie headed a late equaliser at Fir Park as United stayed just a point behind Motherwell.

Chris Porter had twice headed Motherwell in front in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash, scoring after 17 and 50 minutes, but the hosts were pegged back late in each half.

The first blow was self-inflicted when Stephen Craigan headed into his own net seconds before half-time, and Wilkie scored from yet another header four minutes from time.

Nine-man Hibernian blew the opportunity to climb above both Motherwell and fourth-placed United as they self-destructed and lost 2-1 to Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

Hibernian's Dean Shiels capitalised on poor play from Zander Diamond to break the deadlock early in the second half, only for substitute Darren Mackie to equalise within a minute of his introduction and Lee Miller to then score a penalty having been fouled by Thierry Gathuessi.

Another foul on Miller saw Gathuessi booked, before he was sent off for arguing the decision, and any hopes of a comeback from Hibs were soon dashed when substitute Colin Nish was dismissed for dissent.

Teenage Hearts striker Gary Glen continued his swift rise to prominence after grabbing a late winner against Inverness at Tynecastle.

Hearts had gone closest to breaking a first-half stalemate when Christos Karipidis hit the bar with a 20th-minute header.

Eighteen-year-old Glen came up with an 80th-minute goal to earn a 1-0 victory before Hearts handed a debut to Scott Robinson, 16, who by coming on for the last minute and a half became the youngest first-team player in the club's history.

A wonderful volleyed goal from Andy Dorman gave St Mirren a 1-0 victory over 10-man Falkirk at Love Street.

In the 75th minute of a mostly dour encounter, Bairns midfielder Arnau Riera was shown a straight red card for appearing to elbow Dorman and the home side took advantage of their extra man seven minutes later.

When David Barron's cross from the right was flicked on by Jim Hamilton, former New England Revolution player Dorman hammered his shot past Falkirk goalkeeper Shane Supple.

Relegated Gretna claimed a third successive draw and denied Kilmarnock their chance to take revenge for a February mauling by the Borderers.

Gretna had beaten Kilmarnock 4-2 in February and managed a 1-1 result this time.

David Fernandez looked to have set Kilmarnock on their way to three points when he put the home side in front after 57 minutes at Rugby Park.

But Gretna defender Craig Barr grabbed an equaliser 17 minutes later to earn the visitors a point, nudging them closer to a double-figures total at the foot of the league.
