Didier Zokora appeared to be struck by a missile thrown from the crowd during Tottenham's UEFA Cup draw against Anderlecht in Brussels.
The Spurs midfielder needed treatment towards the end of the 1-1 draw at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium, with TV replays suggesting he was hit.
Goalkeeper Paul Robinson was then seen at the final whistle handing objects to the fourth official.
The match was a repeat of the 1984 final which was marred by violence but there were no signs trouble in the crowd between supporters.
However, Anderlecht fans were angry towards the end of the match when a series of decisions went against them.
They had gone ahead in the second half through Bart Goor but Dimitar Berbatov levelled from the penalty spot to send Spurs into the knockout stage of the competition.
