Socceroo Jackson Irvine has been hailed as ‘excellent’ and ‘magnificent’ by his Burton Albion boss after stepping up as skipper in midweek.
Irvine wore the captain’s armband in the absence of John Mousinho as Burton Albion lost 1-0 to Aaron Mooy’s Huddersfield on Wednesday morning.
Burton boss Nigel Clough was full of praise for Irvine, who has scored seven goals so far this season.
"Jackson Irvine wore the captain's armband and he was excellent,” Clough said.
“Some people it affects when they get the armband for the first time, some it inspires.
“I thought it inspired him - he was magnificent.”
Burton takes on promotion hopefuls Newcastle in the Championship on Saturday.
