And that dream could move a step closer to reality tomorrow at Wembley when they face Stoke in the FA Cup semi-final.

Steinsson, 29, has enjoyed some good nights under the lights against continental opposition during his time with Young Boys and AZ Alkmaar.

He wants more and realises the importance of the cup showdown at the national stadium.

Steinsson said: "It is a big ticket to get into Europe. That's where you want to be and I have experienced it before.

"It's where this club should be and we won't have a better chance than Sunday.

"Playing in Europe made me eager for more. I have that hunger to travel again and meet exciting teams."

Steinsson is comforted by the fact that Jussi Jaaskelainen is Wanderers' last line of defence.

Steinsson, who arrived at Bolton in 2008, said: "Jussi is a fantastic goalkeeper and I really enjoy working with him.

"He is probably the best professional I have ever worked with. We have really good professionals at the club, who work really hard off the pitch. He is definitely the top one.

"When I came on trial some years ago I told stories about him when I returned home because I had met a lunatic who trained more than me and still does. I really respect him and there is no sign of him stopping."

Manager Owen Coyle will make one enforced change as on-loan striker Daniel Sturridge is ineligible.

Rodrigo and Ivan Klasnic are among the contenders to replace Sturridge, who scored a brace in the victory against West Ham last weekend.

Midfielder Mark Davies is expected to be included in the squad after returning to training following an ankle problem.

Coyle said: "We have been playing well. We had a dip at the end of December and into January but even then everything that could have gone against us did.

"But the players have continued to overcome the odds. We are in good heart and good form. Everyone has enjoyed the build-up. We have had to work hard to get to the position we are in.

"Going and winning at Wigan, Fulham and Birmingham, it has certainly been a difficult road. Now we want to take it a stage further."
