In a foul ridden contest, Iain Fyfe’s 64th minute header, his third of the season, and Sergio van Dijk’s sixth goal of the campaign - which puts him back on top of the goalscoring charts - saw the Reds close to within a point of league leaders Brisbane Roar heading into Week 14.

After a sluggish start, the home side was made to shrug off a determined Glory, who came to Hindmarsh desperately trying to arrest a slide of eight losses from their past nine games.

Head Coach Rini Coolen said he was forced to deliver some home truths to his team in the dressing room during the interval after they failed to fire a shot in a lacklustre first half performanc.

But his words obviously had an effect as the Reds came out a different side in the second stanza.

“I wasn’t happy with the first half. We made a couple of mistakes in the first minutes, and then we had some problems trying to come back into the game,” Coolen said.

“It’s not necessary, that’s what we showed in the second half, that we can play football, that’s what we had to do. There were some strong words at half time…a few players were not doing their jobs.

"Everybody can make mistakes, that’s not a problem, but there were people not doing their job and not playing football in the first half.”

But he was pleased with the way his players responded after the break, and found a number of positives to take into Saturday night’s match against Newcastle Jets.

He added: “To be honest I’m really happy with how they picked it up in the second half, and they played football

"We scored a few good goals and had a few good chances…so I’m real happy with the second half, but definitely not with the first half.”
