MELBOURNE Victory coach Ernie Merrick said it felt like his team had won after striker Archie Thompson sneaked a 2-2 draw with the Central Coast Mariners.
Merrick was full of praise for his team after Victory had a player sent off for the second week in succession.
Merrick said he had no idea why goalkeeper Michael Theoklitos was sent off in the 58th minute.
"I'll find out during the week about the send off, I have no idea why he got the red card," Merrick said.
"It was tremendous to see the resolve, to work until the final seconds and get a result shows the character in this team.
"There was all sorts of action in the match. It must have been soul-destroying for their team."
Thompson, who bagged the equalising goal with almost the final kick of the match, was ecstatic.
"To be in the right place at the right time was great," he said. "I'm over the moon."
