Bleiberg, who was speaking on the World of Football program yesterday, said Brisbane Strikers are quite wealthy and that there was serious money behind them.

However, Atterton Evans refuted those claims and said the current investors behind the potential A-League bid did not include the former Lord Mayor of Brisbane finances.

“No it’s not, he said. “The Clem Jones Group are not one of the investors.”

Atterton-Evans said the current investors preferred to remain nameless and that he could not give a reason why Bleiberg had linked the Clem Jones group to the bid.

“I’m not sure,” he said. “There have been lots of things quoted in the press about the financial position of the Strikers and none of which are accurate. We are like every club; we have to stretch for every dollar and the Clem Jones group are not an immediate source of funding. They are not one of the investors that we are talking to.”

Bleiberg said his prior experience with the Gold Coast and the Roar meant that he could prepare a team to be ready for 2017, but Atterton-Evans said the bid had not progressed that far.

“Anything is possible I suppose," he said. “Once again FFA haven’t released when they wished to expand, it’s a conversation we need to have with the investors.”

Atterton-Evans also said that Strikers had not met with the FFA and had only alerted them to their interest in bidding and that club colours and name had not been discussed either.

“We’re not that far advanced in the actual machinations of that,' he said. “We need to have some conversations with FFA with naming and things like that as well, we haven’t progressed that far.”

“We are trying to get a few more of the proverbial ducks in a row before saying too much and we believe it’s a strong bid and we believe that it’s got a good chance of success as anyone else’s I suppose around the country.”

Bleiberg said he had seen plans for Brisbane Striker’s home ground Perry Park to be upgraded to fit 15,000 people but Atterton-Evans said that was a long-term project.

“Redevelopment at Perry Park is a long way off as well," he said. “There are a lot of hurdles to overcome there. Games would be at Suncorp I imagine. Brisbane as a city needs a small boutique stadium somewhere and that would be ideal for us, the bigger games would be at Suncorp.”

After missing out on entry into the A-League at the competition’s inception, Atterton Evans said Bleiberg’s experience and expertise would assist the Strikers in their bid to join the A-League.

“It’s obviously very beneficial having someone who’s been there and done that,” he said. “As with everything he would have made mistakes, I’m sure, well, maybe he might tell you knowing Miron. Obviously, there are things that you can do and you realise you can do better. It’s obviously very beneficial to any young entity, if you can avoid making some mistakes it makes it for a stronger entity.”
