FORMER Germany striker Fredi Bobic is set to become the new manager of Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart.
The 38-year-old is currently the managing director of Bulgarian side Chernomorets Burgas but he is on the brink of a return to Germany, where he spent the entirety of his playing career bar a handful of games on loan at English side Bolton and for NK Rijeka in Croatia, where he finished his career in 2006.
Bobic started his senior career at TSF Ditzingen but it was at Stuttgart where he made his name in a five-year period from 1994.
Two years later he was the Bundesliga's top scorer and was part of the Germany side that won Euro 96 in the same year before moving on to Borussia Dortmund.
Now Bobic, who won 37 caps, is on the brink of a move back to Stuttgart to replace Horst Heldt, who moved to Schalke 04 earlier this month.
Bobic said: "I am still in talks with Stuttgart. It is all very positive. I believe that a decision will be taken in the next week."
Stuttgart president Erwin Staudt added: "Everything is ready, now everything can go very fast."
Bobic reportedly beat Andreas Müller, Gerhard Poschner and Karl-Heinz Riedle to the job.
