DIEGO BENAGLIO (Wolfsburg, 08/09/83)

The young goalkeeper has gone from strength to strength since being included as third-choice in Kobi Kuhn's 2006 World Cup squad. Some great performances saw him snapped up by Bundesliga giants Wolfsburg in January and become Switzerland's number one shot-stopper.

FABIO COLTORTI (Racing Santander, 03/12/80)

Battling it out with Benaglio to be Pascal Zuberbuhler's long-term replacement when the veteran 'keeper finally hangs up his gloves. The extremely talented youngster, known for his rapid reflexes and strength in the air, is definitely one to watch out for.

PASCAL ZUBERBUHLER (Neuchatel Xamax, 08/01/71)

Despite criticism of his handling of crosses has been an ever-present in the squad since making his debut 14 years ago. Had a great World Cup in 2006 as Switzerland made it to the last 16 before being eliminated on penalties, returning home without conceding a single goal in 390 minutes of football.

DEFENDERS

MARIO EGGIMANN (Karlsruhe, 24/01/81)

A string of solid displays for the Bundesliga's surprise package has seen the Karlsruhe skipper shoot from near obscurity to become a cult figure at the newly-promoted side. Less fortunately for the club's fans, it also led to Hannover signing him for next season.

STEPHAN LICHTSTEINER (Lille, 16/01/84)

Represented Switzerland at every level before a daunting debut for the senior side against Brazil in 2006. Solid and reliable, he is set to make the right-back slot his own in his usual unfussy way.

PHILIPPE SENDEROS (Arsenal, 14/02/85)

Will be expected to marshal the Swiss defence and to minimise the threat of some of the world's best attackers. The Arsenal centre-back can be prone to lapses of concentration but has impressed for the Gunners this season, especially during Kolo Toure's time at the African Nations Cup.

CHRISTOPH SPYCHER (Eintracht Frankfurt, 30/03/78)

Despite lacking in height, Spycher has been a consistent performer in defence for Switzerland since 2002, and will fight with Ludovic Magnin for the left-back slot this summer. An extremely versatile left-footer, he was Switzerland's best player in Euro 2004.

JOHAN DJOUROU (Arsenal, 18/01/87)

The promising youngster has been a member of the Switzerland squad since before the 2006 World Cup, and could be set to partner Senderos in defence after injury ruled Patrick Muller out of the tournament. However, has had an injury-blighted 2008 since coming back from his loan spell at Birmingham.

STEVE VON BERGEN (Hertha Berlin, 10/06/83)

A squad player at club level for Hertha Berlin, has impressed since moving to Germany after two years at FC Zurich where he won the title in both his seasons at the club. Has provided cover in defence for the national side since 2006.

LUDOVIC MAGNIN (Stuttgart, 20/04/79)

A stalwart of the team who is respected as much for his contribution to team spirit as well as his performances on the pitch. A similar standing at his club earned the free-kick specialist a new contract until 2010 despite an injury-hit end to the season.

MIDFIELDERS

VALON BEHRAMI (Lazio, 19/04/85)

Switzerland's answer to David Beckham, both in looks and skill, his performances this season have drawn the attention of several big-name clubs, with Liverpool thought to be particularly keen. Lazio have slapped an £8million transfer fee on one of their most prized assets and will be hoping that a good Euro 2008 will increase that figure.

TRANQUILLO BARNETTA (Bayer Leverkusen, 22/05/85)

Was selected for the last European Championships without an international cap to his name but since then has been a regular. Short-listed for the Best Young Player award in the 2006 World Cup but will be remembered more for being one of the three players to miss in their penalty shoot-out defeat by Ukraine.

GELSON FERNANDES (Manchester City, 02/09/86)

Hailed as "the best young player in Switzerland" by his club coach Sven-Goran Eriksson, Fernandes has been a regular in midfield alongside Gokhan Inler since making his debut for the Swiss national side in a 2-1 win over Holland last August.

DANIEL GYGAX (Metz, 28/08/81)

The 26-year-old is a veteran of the Euro 2004 and World Cup 2006 squads, and has recently become a permanent fixture on the right of midfield for the national side. He has an eye for goal, finding the net five times so far for Switzerland in 32 caps.

BENJAMIN HUGGEL (Basle, 07/07/77)

Now back in Basle after a two-year stint in Germany with Eintracht Frankfurt, the 31-year-old defensive midfielder will provide cover for Inler and Fernandes in the middle of the park.

GOKHAN INLER (Udinese, 27/06/84)

The 24-year-old has become a regular feature in the heart of the Swiss midfield since the World Cup, forming a promising partnership with fellow youngster Fernandes. At club level he has made a good start to life in Italy, forcing his way into the Udinese first team in his debut season.

HAKAN YAKIN (Young Boys, 22/02/77)

The veteran playmaker has been one of the most important Swiss football players for almost 10 years now, and continues to be the creative spark behind the lone forward in Kuhn's favoured 4-4-1-1 formation. This summer he will share playmaking responsibilities with Barnetta.

RETO ZIEGLER (Sampdoria, 16/01/86)

The versatile left-sided midfielder has enjoyed a promising first season in Serie A, but looks set to start most of his games at Euro 2008 from the bench.

FORWARDS

EREN DERDIYOK (Basle, 12/06/88)

The youngster's goalscoring prowess for Switzerland's Under-21 team earned him a first ever call-up to the senior squad to face England at Wembley in February. The teenager, who has scored seven goals in five games at Under-21 level, netted his side's goal in a 2-1 defeat.

BLAISE N'KUFO (FC Twente, 25/05/75)

Was welcomed back to the fold to face Holland in August after a five-year absence having resolved a disagreement with coach Kobi Kuhn. In that time he has been top scorer for FC Twente in every season since joining them in 2003.

JOHAN VONLANTHEN (Salzburg, 01/02/86)

Another graduate of Switzerland's youth team. At Euro 2004, the then 18-year-old became the youngest player to find the back of the net at the European Championships, eclipsing Wayne Rooney's record.

ALEXANDER FREI (Borussia Dortmund, 15/07/79)

The only good news from Switzerland's 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Germany in march was the return to action of their goalscoring skipper. Frei has missed most of the season with a hip problem but has put his injury nightmare behind him as he prepares to lead the charge for Switzerland in Euro 2008 and perhaps become their record ever goalscorer in the process.

MARCO STRELLER (Basle, 18/06/81)

The injury-prone striker is set to partner Frei up front and will be hoping to remain fit and finally enjoy a good tournament for his country. Missed out on Euro 2004 through injury and missed the first spot-kick as the 2006 World Cup saw his side eliminated by Ukraine on penalties.
