Former Socceroo Ante Juric has been appointed as Sydney FC’s new W-League Head Coach for the 2017/18 season.
Juric takes over from Daniel Barrett after Sydney finished third after the 2016/17 regular season and lost 5-1 in the semi-finals to Perth Glory.
The 43-year-old Juric was assistant coach of the Sky Blues team during the first two W-League campaigns under Alen Stajcic.
He has more recently been assistant Matildas coach as well as Head Coach of the women’s national teams at under 17 and under 19 level.
“It’s a privilege to be coaching at a big club like Sydney FC with a fantastic history in both the men’s and women’s competitions,” said Juric.
“I want to build on what has already been achieved here and continue the Sky Blue legacy of success in the W-League.
“My main goal is to win the Championship and also to secure the Premiership.
“Nothing less is acceptable by the standards expected by Sydney FC in my opinion.
“I know a lot of the girls already and we have some excellent young internationals and I am hoping to add some experience into the group.”
Sydney FC Chief Executive Officer Tony Pignata said Juric is the perfect choice for the role.
“I am pleased to be able to welcome Ante into the Sydney FC family once again,” he said.
“Ante has a huge amount of experience in the women’s game in this country and will undoubtedly be an asset to Sydney FC.
“He has good relationships with many of our existing squad and we look forward to him bringing the best out of the team.”
Juric will begin finalising a squad in time for the start of the W-League season in the latter part of 2017.
