At a packed Allianz Stadium, the Sky Blues managed to claw back from a two-goal deficit and snatch a point against a smartly organised Wanderers.

SYDNEY FC

Andrew Redmayne – 6.5

Left stranded and helpless with two perfect Wanderers’ headers, stood up when the ball needed saving.

Luke Wilkshire – 6.5

Stayed deep unlike his usual overlapping self. As always, the former Socceroo was solid in defence and stopped the attacks when he could.

Jordy Buijs - 7

The Dutchman was solid, and took up the limited chances he had to make some bursting runs into enemy territory. Buijs added to the way in which the home side were able to play a slick passing game.

Alex Wilkinson – 7.5

Even though it was wave after wave of Wanderers’ attacks, Wilkinson’s underlying defensive quality was nearly an expectation.

Michael Zullo - 7

After scoring a goal against the ‘Nix last week, Zullo remained deep much the same as his fullback counterpart in order to put a stop to any Mark Bridge or Alvaro Cejudo attacking advances.

Brandon O’Neill – 6

The usually dictating midfielder kept quiet throughout the game and found it hard to put his stamp on the Sydney Derby, unlike last year.

Joshua Brillante – 8

An all round classy game from the midfielder. With a goal to his name and a superb passing game, could we see Josh Brillante in the Socceroos squad to face Honduras next month?

Alex Brosque – 8

The Sydney skipper shows his experience and class, with his usual smart and decisive runs, making it hard for the Wanderers’ to keep tabs on him.

Milos Ninkovic – 6.5

Put simply, it wasn’t his night. You can’t take away Ninko’s class, with his expected spurts of his superior skill on display, but not consistently.

Bobô – 7

Slotted the penalty with conviction, but besides that, the big Brazilian couldn’t muster many chances, with two shots from six on target.

David Carney – 7

The veteran used all of his experience to win a slightly controversial penalty against Chris Herd, and fell from the game while trying to cover up the effects of a knock sustained the first half.

SUBSTITUTES

Anthony Kalik – 5.5

The youngster was closed down by Wanderers’ players within seconds of getting on the ball, making it hard to impress Graham Arnold.

Matt Simon – 6.5

Classic Matt Simon, showed his passion within 30 seconds of entering the pitch. Missed what could be regarded as a Simon classic, with a header flashing past the post in the dying stages.

WESTERN SYDNEY WANDERERS

Vedran Janjetovic – 7.5

The former Sky Blue was strong at the back, conceding two cruel goals, one from the spot and the other from a deflected Brillante strike. Janjetovic’s distribution was top class, hitting the target nearly every time.

Josh Risdon – 8

Some fantastic attacking play, capped with an early assist to Spaniard Oriol Riera, the Socceroos fullback backed it up with some solid defensive efforts.

Robbie Cornthwaite – 7.5

The big centreback was solid as always, holding off attacks but couldn’t help with the two Sydney FC goals.

Brendan Hamill – 8

What a way to stake a claim for another Starting XI spot, with a strong display at the back stepping in for the injured Michael Thwaite and a first A-League goal since his Melbourne Heart days.

Raul Llorente – 7

The Spaniard looked at home in the first half, with some strong and quick runs down the touchline. With a stronger Sydney FC in the second half, Llorente found it hard to make attacking runs.

Chris Herd – 6.5

After conceding the Sydney penalty after falling for some smart play from David Carney, Herd showed his quality, setting up some dangerous attacks and helping with the Wanderers fluidity in midfield.

Kearyn Baccus – 7.5

Strong at the back and smart in attack, Baccus came close to sending the Red and Black side of town into the lead, but the ball had other ideas.

Roly Bonevacia  – 7

The Dutchman showed off some silky play, but Sydney surrounded the playmaker in order to put a halt to his operations.

Alvaro Cejudo – 9

Showed all his class with some glorious touches and passing moves, broke into the box and tried to set the ball free into Oriol Riera but it was the end finish that the Spaniard lacked.

Oriol Riera – 7.5

Stop Riera was the mission. The mission fell to bits when his header sent the Wanderers’ fans into euphoria after latching onto a Risdon cross. After that, the Sydney back four managed to keep the big man quiet.

Mark Bridge – 6

A surprise inclusion for Sydney FC coach Graham Arnold and his coaching staff, Bridge managed to throw Sydney FC’s plans into the water for the early stages. After this, the striker found it hard to make an impact and get involved.

SUBSTITUTES

Brendon Santalab – 5

Ball possession stayed with Sydney FC during a ten minute spell, making it hard for ‘Santa’ to get involved.

Jacob Melling – N/A

Came on too late to make an impact.
