Pignata did a Q&A on Twitter and was questioned by a Western Sydney Wanderers fan as to why his away tickets rose to a sub-total of $52.40 for the upcoming derby at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night.

The Sky Blues CEO proceeded to make comparisons to prices charged at sporting events in the US to reinforce the value of A-League pricing.

“That's cheap,” Pignata answered jokingly on Twitter in response to the $52.50 ticket.

“I will need to sack my Ticketing Manager. Have you seen prices for sports events in the US? We should up it.”

Sydney currently sit undefeated on top of the table and are averaging an attendance figure of 15,458 this season with the largest crowd coming in Round 5 with 19,143 against Melbourne Victory.

The cheapest adult ticket for Saturday’s derby ranges from $39.80 to $56.10 while  concession prices are between $31.60 to $38.75.

In the popular Big Bash League (BBL) the cheapest tickets for an adult cost $20 and $15 for concession.

 


 

One fan added: “(It’s) hard to compare prices for Sydney FC with say, (NBA side) Golden State Warriors.”

An estimated crowd of 40,000 is expected to travel to Moore Park on Saturday.
