Sydney FC were out to get their third straight win, while Brisbane Roar began their new tale after the departure of John Aloisi. Adam Le Fondre's header in the 16th minute opened the scoring for the Sky Blues, finishing off Michael Zullo's wonderful cross.

Despite calls for a handball, Matt McKay netted the equaliser off of his chest in the 35th minute.

Sydney had put their foot off the pedal and with Brisbane's pressure, the goal was deserved.

Brisbane applied more pressure on Sydney in the second half, which limited their ability to drive into their final third. But with some patience and composed passing, Sydney were able to flick the switch and regain their lead again through Le Fondre.

Redmayne denied Adam Taggart from the spot after a VAR delay and the Sky Blues were able to hold on for the three points.

SYDNEY FC

Andrew Redmayne - 8

Tipped over Ingham's header and made a few other saves. Tried to call for a handball on McKay but the VAR said otherwise. Saved Taggart's penalty to keep his side in the lead.

Aaron Calver - 4

Little bit of hesitation between the defence. Clumsily gave away a penalty with a clip to the back of the ankle.

Alex Wilkinson - 5.5

Hesitation and errors opened up some opportunities for Taggart.

Paulo Retre - 5

Won back possession well. Lacked quality in the final third and his decision-making wasn't up to scratch.

Michael Zullo - 6

Linked-up well with Ninkovic. Delightful cross into the box for Le Fondre's opener. Wasn't a match for Ingham on the night.

Josh Brillante - 6.5

Thwarted Roar's midfield runs. Had a much improved performance along with partner in crime, O'Neill.
