A 10-man Newcastle Jets fell 1-0 to Sydney FC on the road, extending their winless streak to five games and leaving them 10 points off the finals pace.
Home fans at Jubilee Stadium were entertained by a dominate Sky Blues side who went into the first half one goal to the good thanks to a Nigel Boogaard own goal.
Alex Brosque, Adam le Frondre were terrorising Newcastle defence with their pace and movement up front, supported by the midfield play of Brandon O’Neill and co. Newcastle had chances but didn't have the quality to really threaten Andrew Redmayne
Second-half saw Jason Hoffman sent off for kicking out, letting himself down and his team mates who were already battling to get back into the game.
Adam le Fondre should have buried his shot from six yards out to double the advantage - a poor miss from the golden boot leader - still Sydney collected all three points which was deserved.
