The pair have been told their services will not be required at Hindmarsh Stadium next season but both are believed to be keen to secure fresh Hyundai A-League clubs.

Petta has struggled with injuries while defender Susak enjoyed only limited game time last season.

Now van Egmond has confirmed the duo were made available to him but he won't be pursuing either player.

He told au.fourfourtwo.com: "Yes, both Bobby Petta and Milan Susak were offered to us but we have no interest in them.

"That's not to say they are not very good players it's just that I think that we already have people in the positions they occupy and they're not the positions we're looking to fill."

The Jets boss has just returned from his European scouting and fact-finding mission empty-handed although several players will be heading over to Australia for trials in the coming days and weeks.

He spent several days studying the structure and training methods at AS Roma as well as meeting numerous players and agents based in Italy and other European countries.

None have accompanied him back to Australia but there are several 'possibles' on van Egmond's list.

However, he is well aware of the old saying that 'all that glitters is not gold' and will insist on seeing potential targets play in Newcastle before committing to a deal.

He said: "There were some players over there that we liked the look of but that was in a completely different environment. I want to see how these players adapt to Australian conditions. We'll be having three or four over soon to have a look at."
