The tall 18-year old is currently in camp with Spurs as they tour Melbourne for the 2016 International Champions Cup (ICC) preparing for the upcoming Premier League season.

Ironically Glover had never set foot in Melbourne prior to last Saturday despite being from Australia, the youngster missed out on Tottenham’s 2015 visit to Sydney as he was on Young Socceroos duty.

Glover has high hopes and strong ambitions for what lies ahead and took motivation from success stories from Socceroos of the golden generation – in particular Harry Kewell, who also left home for the UK as a teenager.

“I take those guys as an inspiration - they’ve done it as well, it’s tough, but you have to fight through it if you want to get where you want to be really,” Glover said.

“If it’s your dream you have to chase it and there’s sacrifices along the way.

“It was very tough at the start, living on the other side of the world at such a young age is very tough, leaving my family behind and my friends. It’s what I want to do, it’s my dream and I won’t let this opportunity pass.

“Homesickness was big at the start, I’m 18 now and I’ve matured very quickly learning to do things by myself.”

Glover played in the U21s Tottenham squad last season, but isn’t sure about the role he will play in their upcoming campaign being so early in the pre-season and the teenager hasn’t ruled out going on loan for experience.

He began goalkeeping at the age of 10, but beforehand played a striker’s role as a toddler and now the youngster has set the bar high and hopes to compete in the 2016 AFC Asian u19 Championship for Australia.

“Of course I want to be the best the goalkeeper in the world, I want to go to the highest level of competition in club and country,” he said.

“I need to continue to work hard. I’m only young and see what comes of it. Saving shots from Vincent Janssen and Erik Lamela in training it’s only going to make me better.

“We’re qualified for the Asian Cup in Bahrain in October and 2017 U20 World Cup next year in South Korea so hopefully I’ll be selected.”
