Pondeljak will always have a place in Victory club folklore for his winning goal in last season's grand final.

That will always hold a special place in his heart but he wants further success with his home-town club.

"I signed a new contract the other day and very  pleased and very happy to do that and continue playing for the Victory," said Pondeljak.

"As long as Musky's (Kevin Muscat)  still running around I'm quite happy to follow him around. I'm feeling great, feeling good.

"Victory showed a lot of confidence in getting me down here and I was more than happy to come home. Everything's worked out well, things were really good last year and we're hoping to emulate some of that this year."

He joked that grand final heroics hadn't made a huge amount of difference in the contract negotiating stakes and it wasn't about look back in football.

"It's always good to be on the scoresheet in any game, let alone a grand final," said Pondeljak.  "That's in the past now and we're obviously concentrating on this year. First and foremost we have to concentrate on this (A-League) campaign, hopefuly get in the finals and give it a real shake."

The midfielder has been battling an injury problem for several weeks but is confident a return is not too far away.

"The calf's coming along really well. It's been about five weeks and hopefully I can put my hand up for selection either this week or more so probably next week," he added.

He also had everything crossed that the new-shape Etihad Stadium this weekend would help bring about a transformation in the club's home form.
