ITALY striker Luca Toni has urged his team to forget about their crushing defeat to Holland and overcome Romania tomorrow to get their Euro 2008 adventure back on track.
The world champions were stunned 3-0 by Marco van Basten's men in Bern on Monday as their 'Group of Death' campaign got off to the worst possible start.
Toni, who hinted he would prefer coach Roberto Donadoni to start with both Alessandro Del Piero and Antonio Cassano tomorrow, is keen to banish memories of that defeat by beating Romania.
"We made too many mistakes against Holland," he admitted.
"The second half was much better because Antonio and Alessandro gave a creative boost to the team.
"They did well, although even with them on the pitch we did not score.
"But all is not lost and we still have two games in which to make amends."
And with the prospect of a World Cup final rematch against France in Tuesday's final pool match looming large on the horizon, the Bayern Munich frontman knows nothing less than victory will suffice against Victor Piturca's side.
"The important thing now is that we beat Romania," said the 31-year-old. "Even if (goalkeeper Gianluigi) Buffon scores, it doesn't matter... we just need the three points."
Monday's defeat was the worst since Donadoni took over from World Cup-winning coach Marcello Lippi two years ago, with a group-stage exit from Euro 2008 likely to raise serious doubts over his future despite the fact he penned a fresh two-year deal before the tournament.
Some reports in Italy suggest the former Azzurri midfielder has lost the support of the dressing room, but his players have leapt to his defence, with Toni adding: "We hope we can win for him."
Left-back Fabio Grosso is expected to start against Romania after impressing from the bench against the Dutch.
