10: Jamaica at the Madejski stadium in 2003
After defeating England, the Aussies bagged another win, this time 2-1 over Jamaica in Reading. With the game poised at 1-1 Kewell scored a beautifully taken winner. Midfielder Paul Okon set Kewell on his way with a lovely through ball and with three defenders trailing him slotted coolly underneath the advancing keeper.

8: Harry the hero in Istanbul
For his last club Galatasaray, Kewell’s header earned the Turks a 1-0 victory over Olympiacos in the UEFA Cup at packed Ali Sami Yen Stadium. 7: Leeds Utd versus Arsenal
A struggling Leeds under El Tel upstaged Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal with the Aussies front and centre back in May 2003. Kewell after five minutes latched onto a long ball from defence and surged past a slow Gunners defence, saw the ball drop in front of him then smashed it into the Arsenal net for a stunning goal. Viduka later in the game scored to end Arsenal’s title hopes but it was Kewell’s stunner that is well-remembered.

6: Against Iraq at Qatar 2011 Asian Cup
Into the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup, the Iraqis were their usual difficult to beat. Loads of chances were spurned till Matty McKay’s perfect long pass/cross in the latter stages of extra time found Kewell in the box. Cool as you like Kewell’s header was perfectly placed past Mohammed Kassid Kadhim to end Iraq’s dreams and help send the Roos into the semis for the first time.

The teenager was at it again in the ill-fated return leg scoring the first after Aurelio Vidmar’s cross was missed by the Iranians and H latched onto it and directed it home for a 1-0 lead. In the hell-like atmosphere of Tehran’s Azardi stadium, 19-year-old Kewell in virtually his first game for the green and gold got the Aussies off to a ripper with a 19th minute goal – a beautiful effort after Viduka had supplied the ball and Kewell outwitted three defenders, control with his right and shot with his left from the corner of the six yard box to silence 128,000 Iranians. It was the goal that introduced himself to the media and fans as “Harry Cool”.

2: Three Lions at Upton Park
A friendly in 2003 that signalled the start of the “Golden Generation” who could forget Kewell robbing his Leeds teammate Rio Ferdinand before coolly rounding keeper David James and slotting home for Australia’s second to make it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time. The Aussie supporters behind that goal that night will tell you it was one of their sweetest moments. The English were upstaged by the green and gold in their capital London. Not bad given Kewell was sick as a dog before the game. The Socceroos went on to win 3-1.

1: World Cup 2006 versus Croatia
What a moment in Stuttgart. With our World Cup dreams seemingly just that at 2-1 down in our final group game in Germany. But on 79 minutes Bresciano’s cross was helped on by Aloisi before Kewell controlled it and slammed it home for the equaliser. Cue mayhem everywhere. Were you there? Did you watch it on TV back home freezing at one of the live sites – it was a goal that made the front pages and helped propel Hiddink’s Socceroos to the knockout stage for the first time ever.
And the crowd went wild...
