With much of the problems which littered their opening Euro 2012 game against Croatia again at the fore, goals from Fernando Torres, David Silva and Cesc Fabregas ensured that the Italian's side became the first team to be eliminated from Euro 2012.

Stray passing and bad positioning was further highlighted against the holders, and when pressed on whether he would consider changing things up, Trapattoni agreed that it was necessary.

"We met two very strong teams, but that is not an excuse," he told reporters.

The 73-year-old manager argued that his players were psychologically prepared and ready to take the game to Spain, but it simply did not translate into the match scenario.

"We couldn't do anything," he said.

"Clearly, we knew that this opponent was superior and again this evening you saw a goal after three minutes.

"I will ask the players tomorrow. There were too many mistakes in two minutes.

"In training, the team was happy, comfortable and ready, but as soon as we started the game we were down by one goal. I don't know."
