Mohamad Omar Al-Shaddadi and Ismael Matar both scored twice for the visitors in the Group C clash to help ease the disappointment of their recent Gulf Cup campaign where, as defending champions, they exited in the group stage.

Abdul Salam Al-Junaibi hit the woodwork after 16 minutes and it was a sign of things to come as UAE took the lead just before the half-hour mark.

Al-Junaibi's through ball found Al-Shaddadi and the striker coolly slotted past onrushing keeper Syamsuri Mustafa.

It got worse for Malaysia on the stroke of half-time when Mohd Hardi Jaafar fouled Ismael Salim in the area and Al-Shaddadi put away the spot kick.

UAE netted their third goal in the 62nd minute when Abdul Rahim Jumaa's cross from the right was volleyed home by Matar.

Malaysia coach B. Sathianathan brought on substitute goalkeeper Syed Adney Syed Hussain for Syamsuri but it was to no avail.

Matar claimed his second and the visitors' fourth in the 75th minute when he glided past two defenders before finishing with aplomb.

Syed Adney then picked the ball out of the back of the net for the second time with five minutes to go when Ahmad Khalil took advantage of a defensive error to net the fifth from close range.
