The Belgians were celebrating in the the 68th minute when Cyril Thereau centred from the right, and Spurs defender Michael Dawson allowed the ball to cross past him before Bart Goor smashed into the bottom corner.

But Spurs were level within three minutes when Jermaine Jenas was brought down by Jelle van Damme and Dimitar Berbatov sent Daniel Zitka the wrong way from the penalty spot.

The point was enough to see Tottenham to the top of the Group G standings and into the knockout stage.

Getafe are just a point adrift of the leaders after their 2-1 win over AaB, who exited the competition as a result.

In Group E, Spartak Moscow, FC Zurich and Bayer Leverkusen all advanced to the knockout stage.

Egor Titov's 57th-minute strike earned Spartak a 1-0 win over Zurich and moved them to the top of the standings, but Leverkusen's victory over Sparta Prague ensured both the Swiss and German sides also qualified.

Despite the loss of captain Carsten Ramelow to a red card, a Manuel Friedrich header in the 71st minute gave Leverkusen the edge over their opponents, knocking the Czech champions and Toulouse out of the competition.

Bordeaux are also through to the last 32 after a 2-1 win over already-qualified Helsingborg in Group H.

Marouane Chamakh put the French side ahead but Henrik Larsson equalised shortly afterwards.

The match turned when Adama Tamboura was given his marching orders for the visitors and Bordeaux managed to make their extra man tell, Jussie scoring the winner.

There is still everything to play for in Group F after Aris Salonika were held to a 1-1 draw by Braga.

Braga went in front courtesy of Roland Linz's early strike but Aris defender Ronaldo levelled matters midway through the first half to earn a share of the spoils.

Aris sit second in the group, level on five points with their final-round opponents Bayern Munich and one behind Bolton, who posted a 1-0 win over Red Star Belgrade.

Gavin McCann scored the decider on the stroke of half-time, but the English club must wait until the final round of fixtures next week to see whether they progress having completed their group campaign.
