Wehrman is currently with Norwegian side Fredrikstad but United boss Chris Turner was in the stands for the Australian's latest showing and is thought to be keen.

That could mean swapping one icy spot for the equally chilly surroundings of England's north east coast.

The Aussie has been unsettled at his current club after a row with management last season and is also thought to have attracted some interest from A-League clubs.

Hartlepool had tremendous service from the last Aussie on their books with Gold Coast striker Porter a regular scorer during his six years at Victoria Park.

If Pools do make a move for Wehrman he could be joined at the club by Norwegian winger Andre Fredriksen.
