The 33-year-old left Eredivisie outfit Sparta Rotterdam in May but failed to attract any interest from other Dutch clubs before turning down offers from Greece and Scotland.

Westerveld, capped six times by Holland, was also linked with a move to Spain but a deal did not materialise.

"I could go to Greece and Scotland, but I didn't like those clubs," Westerveld told AD Sportwereld. "And the contacts in Spain never became concrete.

"No other club from Holland knocked on my door."

Westerveld, who has been training at Spanish club Real Mallorca to keep his fitness levels up, believes he is capable of playing at the top level for a further five years but insists he will call it a day if a tempting offer fails to emerge.

"I have agreed with my wife that I will wait until the end of the winter break to see if an offer comes," he added.

"If nothing comes my way in that time, I will definitely stop. Up until then I will train fully and seriously. I feel very fit."
