Adelaide United FC will take on the South Australian State Team in a special charity match at Hindmarsh Stadium this Friday.
The game, which has been labelled ‘Kick A Goal For Kids’, will showcase the best football talent in South Australia with all proceeds going to the Starlight Children’s Foundation and Camp Quality.
While the match will be a major fundraiser for these charities, it will also tie in with Hyundai Heroes Week, a Hyundai A-League initiative that engages all eight HAL clubs with the local community.
With the start of the season less than a fortnight away, the match against the State Team will be the final chance for Adelaide United to play before their Round 1 match against Queensland Roar.
United Coach Aurelio Vidmar says coming up against the best players in South Australia’s local leagues will be an excellent lead in to the A-League for his team.
“It will be excellent preparation for us as our final serious hit out before our first game against Queensland,” Vidmar said.
“Kick A Goal For Kids is supporting two great causes, both the Starlight Foundation and Camp Quality, so it would be terrific to see people come out and give these charities and football in South Australia their full support.”
The game could also mark the first appearance by Adelaide United’s marquee signing Paul Agostino, who is back to full training after breaking his foot.
The SA State Team will be coached by Joe Mullen and consist mainly of players from Adelaide’s Super League, including the leading all time goal-scorer in the National League Damien Mori, defenders Paul Pezos and Ivan Karlovic along with former Adelaide United players Chad Bugeja and Michael Matricciani.
